97/365: Pushing My Limits
I left work this evening–the last day I worked this week, having taken two days off to get things ready for James’s viewing and funeral (there’s a lot of cooking involved).
I stopped to get gas and discovered that the reason my car had been starting slowly was that the battery was in the process of dying … which it did entirely as I was filling the tank. A nice–if clueless–young man at the next pump gave me a jump start (turned out his enthusiasm wasn’t equaled by knowledge–there were sparks and smoke and … well, I left the car door open in case I needed to jump out), and then I drove to Sears to have the battery replaced, all the while thinking that I just couldn’t deal with this on top of everything else. Fortunately, the entire process of testing and replacing the battery took 25 minutes — I still had enough time to join people for happy hour and slug down a beer before heading off to group therapy, which I really needed this week.
