They were nice enough to let me work from home this week while the contractors are working. Yesterday wasn’t the most productive day, but I banged out a good four hours worth of solid work today.

Mocha worked hard, too, as you can see.

The day I left for Cairo in March, I got up early thinking I’d get a head start on pulling last minute things together. I went downstairs and found myself sloshing through water that wasn’t supposed to be standing two inches deep in the pantry. It turned out that the hot water heater had broken and dumped its contents all over the floor, which included seeping underneath the wood floor, which had been down less than a year.

Even before I came back, Ray told me over the phone that the floor was warping. We called in a contractor, and work started this morning on pulling up the damaged pieces. There were pieces that were still wet underneath two months later.

I wasn’t sure what was worse: the naked glare of the concrete; the green and white mold that we’ve been walking on and breathing for two months; or the smell.

Actually, I do know. The smell was repulsive.

Sometimes spring comes early in Texas. Sometimes it doesn’t. These little purple flowers in the front yard only sprout up every once in a while, and then the next big rain storm usually clears them out.

Still, they’re pretty.

I can neither confirm nor deny that this photo was taken when I was drunk and laying on the floor waiting for the room to stop spinning.

You don’t really need me to explain this one to you, I’m sure.

When I grilled the other night, I threw some extra cuts of meat on the grill just to have them ready to go. Here I’m turning the leftover tilapia into enchiladas. For the record, I don’t recommend using tilapia in enchiladas — the fish doesn’t really absorb the chile flavor.

We had happy hour in a new and different location today — at Scholz’s Biergarten. I didn’t bring my camera, but Christine brought hers, so I stole it and used it to take a picture of her.

I probably need to get in closer to get the texture of the rust and grime and stuff. While I’m at it, I should probably clean the bloody thing, but … yeah, that’s not going to happen!

We had to babysit Patron while Bianca was out of town for the weekend. He’s a big, dumb, always happy dog. He’s a sweetheart (but did I mention he’s not the brightest bulb in the chandelier?).
